Valve treats the unbanned with the undead

You must be holding your Steam wrong. Wait, I think I mixed something up.

Unlike some companies, Valve offers a timely solution to its blunders. An accident that led to more than 12,000 false Modern Warfare 2 bans was quickly patched up as Valve unbanned those affected. Not only that, Valve also gave ‘em Left 4 Dead 2 free of charge and a bonus copy to give as a gift to another Steam member.

Oh Gabe Newell, you’re so kind.

Valve swaps Portal 2 event with surprise, don’t expect cake

Valve planned a big E3 Portal 2 event for the press, now it’s not happening. Don’t get bummed though because it’s being replaced by a surprise.

Having built quite the reputation for being awesome at delivering a message, Valve couldn’t throw out a boring press release letting people know. Nope, that’d be too normal for those guys. Instead they’ve sent out a note straight from Aperture Science.

Not going to E3 and all, I wasn’t cool enough to receive this message. Destructoid did, however, and they’ve posted the e-mail.

Mac gets Steam; here, have a free copy of Portal

I already own Portal so this deal doesn’t really apply to me, but for anyone who hasn’t picked up one of the best games ever, do so now.

As part of the whole Steam going to Mac thing, Valve is allowing everyone download Portal free of charge – that applies to both PC and Mac gamers.

To celebrate the occasion Valve decided to be all awesome and create an Aperture Science video that you should watch.

Free Portal guys, go get it on Steam.

Own your very own belching Boomer, batteries not included

This Boomer plush is a mix of disgusting and cute, and if it weren’t for the $50 price, I’d snag it without question. Eventually Valve will add four more little horrors to the roster, but for now the Boomer is the only Special Infected available.

Buy it here.

The little guys are actually a nice size, this one in particular standing 13” tall and 13” across (arm tip to arm tip). Apparently he belches, too. Unfortunately the $50 doesn’t cover the batteries though, so be prepared to shove three of your own AA batteries into his fat gut.

Expect Gordon Freeman to keep things quiet

Soon enough I’ll be able to join the “where’s my Episode Three?!” bandwagon as I’ve finally got around to playing Half-Life 2. I’ve beat the main campaign and played through Episode One just yesterday, so it’s straight to Episode Two I go.

I don’t expect it to last long and actually, I’m around 30 minutes into the first chapter already, but I do expect a massive cliffhanger ending.

Unlike the rest of the entire world, I haven’t been waiting since 2007 for Episode Three so I guess it won’t be that bad. By the way, at this point is there anyone who doesn’t want or even expect Valve to just go ahead and turn the episode into a full blown game and call it Half-Life 3?

No new news on whatever Episode Three has morphed into, but Valve boss Gabe Newell did have some words to share on Gordon Freeman’s character. Basically, expect Freeman to stay the silent type.

“We’re not philosophically opposed to this, but we don’t have any good reasons to do it,” Newell said. Right now making your companions more interesting and compelling seems a more fruitful avenue to explore.”

I fucking love Valve because they do what they feel is best for the series, refusing to buckle under the pressure of what the mainstream sees as must-have features like, you know, talking lead characters.

I haven’t been a long term fanboy, but at this point, consider me on board for just about whatever game Valve decides to throw out there.

Valve brings more promise of cake, probably lies

Portal 2 is official, and I think we can all let loose a squeal of happiness. Valve confirmed today that the game will see a release during the upcoming holiday season, so expect a Decemberish launch.

Sometimes sequels take a little away from what makes the original so special, but sometimes you just don’t care and want more. This is a case where I want more, and I’m elated to have a Portal 2 on the way.

Make a note of it: in 2010, a gaming apocalypse did happen. Ain’t no way 2011 can match this year; ain’t no way, son.

Valve embraces Apple confirmed, basically

Well, it’s pretty much confirmed: Valve is going Apple and they’re bringing Steam with ‘em. People dug around Steam and found some files related to Mac OS X. That could’ve amounted to nothing, but now Valve has released a set of six images to various members of the press with one clear message: expect Valve products on Mac.

This should excite plenty of Mac owning gamers who, let’s face it, get shafted in the worst way when it comes to getting games.

Having recently bought a MacBook, I’ll be sure to check this out when it launches.

Left 4 Dead 2 story trailer

Do want.

Your Modern Warfare 2 is my Left 4 Dead 2, and after watching this “leaked” trailer, I think it moved a little. People aren’t quite sure if this is a legitimate leak, or if Valve is simply throwing the video out as a viral ad, but I really don’t give a damn either way.

The trailer strictly focuses on story with no gameplay at all, but it still manages to get my blood pumping (see: chainsaw splitting a zombie in two).

There’s not a lot to say, just watch the damn clip.

Left 4 Dead 2 demo officially dated

l4d2

Left 4 Dead 2 is just around the corner and it’s killing just about every bit of Modern Warfare 2 hype coursing through my body. Sorry, but the promise of more Valve created chaotic zombie action overwhelms my desire for another Call of Duty.

Valve has officially unveiled their demo plans for the title.

Starting October 27, pre-order customers from retailers and Steam will be able to access the demo, which will be set in The Parish scenario. Xbox Gold member and PC owners who didn’t pre-order will be able to join in on November 3. READ MORE
