Miyamoto preps MotionPlus title, new Nintendo hardware coming

New Nintendo hardware confirmed. But it already has been in the past, sort of.

Nintendo hasn’t been too shy about acknowledging something is in the works, and Shigeru Miyamoto added another “yup” to the pile during a symposium at the 13th Annual Japan Media Arts Festival on Saturday, Andriasang reports.

Along with the brief mention of new hardware, Miyamoto also said he has another MotionPlus title in the works that isn’t Zelda. Basically, it could be anything so have fun with that. Your best place to start? Well, find out what Miyamoto’s current hobby is because that probably has something to do with it.

Miyamoto said this while being honored with a “Special Achievement Prize,” but let’s be honest, the bigger news is that OMG he mentioned a new platform.

We’ll see if GDC truly marks the unveiling of new Nintendo hardware.

Also, Super Mario Galaxy spawned from hamsters … seriously. Read about it over at Andriasang.

Zelda goes MotionPlus exclusive

Like most peripherals, Wii MotionPlus hasn’t exactly been properly supported. Despite reaching a massive audience with Wii Sports Resort, Nintendo hasn’t been very gracious with new games making use of the product.

It’s been known for some time that the upcoming Zelda would be compatible with it, giving MotionPlus owners something to look forward to. What I don’t think was known is that it’s actually MotionPlus exclusive, meaning there ain’t no other way to play it.

“After actually making it compatible,” said producer Eiji Aonuma, “it just feels so natural. Link’s sword and the controller that you’re holding become one.”

Good. MotionPlus is actually a nice little peripheral and Zelda fits perfectly with it. I’d expect bundle of some sort to make sure everyone who picks up Zelda will actually be able to play it.

Aonuma also reiterated Nintendo’s E3 plans, but goes a bit further saying the goal is to have something playable at the show – suddenly that 2010 launch date doesn’t seem so absurd.

Reginleiv comes with MotionPlus support, loads of blood

reginleiv

More details are coming in for the newly renamed Zangeki no Reginleiv. As previously thought, the title takes form much like the 360 title Earth Defense Force 2017.

There are a few things making this game appealing. First off, it’s been confirmed that it will use MotionPlus, though it is compatible with the Classic Controller for a more traditional configuration.

Aside from knowing the upcoming Zelda will use it, Nintendo has shown poor support for MotionPlus despite phenomenal sales of Wii Sports Resort. It’s nice to see that I’ll finely be able to knock the dust caked over it assuming Reginleiv gets localized.

There are more than 300 different weapon types to hack down enemies, and the game supports four player online co-op. READ MORE

NOA’s Bill Trinen talks Pikmin 3, MotionPlus

pikmin

It’s funny that for an event so exclusively focused on Wii Sports Resort, the media managed to squeeze some nice information out of various Nintendo employees at the event. Senior manager product marketing at Nintendo (long title) Bill Trinen had quite a bit to say even if it was all pretty tight-lipped.

Perhaps most interesting was Joystiq’s conversation with Trinen. Their video interview covers everything from Nintendo’s plans with MotionPlus to their lack of WiiSpeak support, and even Pikmin 3.

It brings up an interesting question though, how far will Nintendo go with MotionPlus?

Their stance right now is to use it when it seems necessary. That’s a fine answer I suppose, but I don’t want it to become another underused accessory from Nintendo, you know, like WiiSpeak. A lot of it likely depends on how many units Wii Sports Resort moves. If the game hits millions of gamers – which it should – Nintendo is going to be far more inclined to develop games with MotionPlus in mind.

Going back to Pikmin, Trinen basically said “yeah we’re making Pikmin, so shut up because we’ll show it when we want.” That’s fine. But damnit, you better truly be making it. I can’t help but think of this comic every time Pikmin 3 is mentioned.
