Update: As noted by Michael’s comment, Fable III launches just over a week before Kinect — I thought it was the other way around. Either way, with the current Fable Kinect plans canned, and with the two launching damn near simultaneously, don’t expect Kinect implementation anytime soon.
Well damn, it looks like core gamers have one more reason to avoid Kinect at launch. One of the last bastions of hope for Kinect was Fable III’s implementation. The prospect of a gamer’s game embracing at least some form of Kinect compatibility was at the very least intriguing.
Peter Molyneux told Engadget not to expect the previously announced Kinect support for Fable III’s launch. In fact, those ideas have apparently been scrapped because they weren’t “up to snuff,” Joystiq reports.
From his wording, it sounds like any Kinect support will come via DLC, if it comes at all.
Damn.
As someone who is actively trying to justify a purchase of Kinect, this makes it all the harder to do so. I’d be buying it for Kinect Sports alone because I honestly don’t give a shit about Dance Central. I swear, I think Microsoft isactively trying to talk me out of it.
It’ll very difficult to justify buying into Kinect for a Wii Sports clone, even if it turns out to be a good one.

Getting excited about the X10 unveiling of Fable III? It’s happening this Thursday, so it’s understandable if you’re a fan of the series. Just be prepared, this is a Peter Molyneux title and many words will be spoken about the game; things that will happen in the game, and things that stand no chance of making it into the final product.
Unlike with most of his releases, he’s nega-hyping the X10 glimpse of Fable III.
“We’re making a big announcement about Fable III in the next couple of weeks [at X10]…I hope I haven’t spoiled some horrible PR surprise. Gulp. We’ll be making some announcements about Fable III and there’s some, wow, there’s some very, very big things happening in Fable,” Molyneux said to Gamereactor.”Bigger than you think, and it’s going to really upset people. I’m really scared when I go out and tell people what it is, they’re going to get super pissed off. They really are. But it’s the right thing to do, man. I’m sure it’s the right thing.”
So yeah, be prepared to get “super pissed.” Better yet, have no expectations at all.
This could very well be a complete non-factor that Molyneux is blowing out of proportion, ormaybe Fable III has turned into a dating sim.

X10 kicks off soon and I’m hoping for some good stuff to come of it. We already know Fable III is going to make its big debut, but it’s not just going to be a Fable event.
We want to see new games, new things, and new stuff, too. I’m not sure how many new “things” we’ll see, but Microsoft has confirmed new game announcements and other “stuff.”
“I’m gonna be in San Francisco for a press event that we’re doing called X10, which we will be announcing all sorts of cool games and stuff, other stuff that I can’t really talk about yet,” Major Nelson said.
Here’s to hoping Microsoft announces some more in-house projects. That sounds funny in a year with Microsoft publishing Halo: Reach, Alan Wake, Fable III and probably some other big title I’m forgetting. It’s still a small list when compared to their competitors, but Microsoft is all about third party support, I suppose.

Fable III appearance at X10 confirmed.
Coming via Facebook (up yours, Twitter), Lionhead announced that their not-so-subtle hint a few weeks back was indeed in regards to a Fable III showing.
“We hinted at this a couple of weeks ago but today it’s official, a big Xbox event called X10 will take place in San Francisco next month showing all the upcoming Xbox games! Of course Lionhead is excited about showing the latest of Fable III, but we’re also very much looking forward to all other games and announcements… coming from this event! So put it in your diaries; 11th February in SF and on the internet, X10!”
There you have it, folks. If you enjoyed Fable II as much as I did, you’re undoubtedly excited to see what the future holds for the series – no doubt Natal will have some implementation in the game.
The question is, do you want Natal support and how integral to the experience should it be? If I were to guess, I’d imagine this would be the big gamer’s game Microsoft could use to draw the core gamer into adopting Natal.
If Natal is indeed as cheap as rumors have hinted, a bundle could work wonders for getting it into the hands of 360 users.

Apparently this Gamescom thing is a bigger deal than I imagined as Lionhead unveiled Fable III. Not only is there some art for the project, but there’s a trailer as well. Despite having no gameplay, it’s works wonders as a hype trailer and gets me all giddy as Fable II stands as one of my favorite games of 2008, and better yet, one of my favorite games of this generation.
Love the music, too, Mr. Molyneux; it has a Banjo vibe to it.
Reporting from the event, Destructoid updated with some words from Peter Molyneux who says that a dated mechanic has bogged down Fable and Fable II; that mechanic will be eliminated in Fable III. He wouldn’t say what that mechanic is, however.
Fable III takes place after the last DLC Fable II received, which effectively solidified my purchasing of Fable II’s latest DLC. Damn you, marketing geniuses!
Fable III is set to hit sometime in 2010, though no date is specified. If the title does land in 2010, expect it to be late, and expect it to be another reason why 2010 could be the biggest year in gaming we’ve seen in a long time.
