Funny that I only just ripped on April Fools’, yet I’m posting a joke video. Can’t help it though, I actually want this to happen and by posting about it, I figure I’ve done my part in turning this joke into reality all Dark Void Zero style.
Platinum Games created a sprite-based side-scrolling action game based on Bayonetta, a game I’m quite fond of. By the way, love the music.
Come on Platinum, turn this joke into something serious. The downloadable market is huge, and it’s begging for a side-scrolling Bayonetta – well, I’m begging anyways.

Bayonetta gets to join the lucky bunch of titles that have surpassed one million copies sold. Yes, it’s worldwide and across two platforms, but I don’t think many expected Platinum to get those kind of numbers out of it; I know I didn’t.
Obviously I’m pleased with these numbers considering I enjoyed it immensely.
The 1.1 million it sold still didn’t outperform Sega’s other release Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, which sold 5.67 million, but it’s become apparent that anything with Mario in the title is going to kill. That it’s developed by Sega and is a part of the Olympics franchise means it’s probably shit and doesn’t deserve it, but try telling the mainstream consumer that.
Either way, Bayonetta is a success and Platinum finally has a well-deserved hit on their hands. Now please show us some gameplay footage of Vanquish.

Review based on 360 version. Typically this wouldn’t matter, but the PS3 is said to be an inferior port — please keep this in mind.
Former Capcom developer Clover (now defunct) are on their second release since forming under the Platinum Games name, and like MadWorld, they’ve went for another stylish and extreme take on the action genre with Bayonetta.
The game puts the super sexualized female lead of the same name, Bayonetta, in the filthy and perverted hands of 360 and PS3 gamers.
But Bayonetta is more than just sex appeal, it’s a frantic action game that feels more Devil May Cry than perhaps even modern day Devil May Cry. That should come as no surprise considering the developer’s roots, and the background of director Hideki Kamiya. READ MORE

While the Devil May Cry series has lost favor with fans over the years, the original’s director (Hideki Kamiya) saw fit to make a true next gen version of the series with Platinum Games; only it’s called Bayonetta and features the hyper sexualized Bayonetta, not an angsty white-haired dude with cheesy lines.
Kamiya did good; real good.
It wasn’t just the frantic action that scored big with me though, Platinum also pieced together a soundtrack that synced excellently to the combat on screen. Actually, I admire the bold stance they took, often going with pop songs and even some jazz-influenced tracks from time to time. It was unexpectedly delightful.
For this Musically Inclined I picked my favorite of the bunch, you’d be surprised how well this track goes with slicing up angels.

Two high quality games came out yesterday, and since I can’t afford either, you should go out and buy both for me. Those games are Bayonetta and Darksiders, neither of which will sell as many as they should.
Reviews are rolling in and Vigil Games appears to have delivered a high quality game with Darksiders (yet another winner for THQ). Maybe I’ll make this one of those titles I surprise myself deeper into 2010 when I find myself finally caught up games I deem necessary to catch up with.
I wrongly assumed this game was a God of War clone, but it’s more Zelda than anything. Thankfully it’s of high quality and not an outright rip-off (ahem). Better still, you know you’re getting the complete package with Darksiders because Vigil has no DLC planned meaning no excluded content.
Bayonetta broke street date and has been available for awhile, but it’s officially out now. Despite Darksiders’ impressive scores, Bayonetta manages to outdo it pulling in some extremely high marks. Pick it up if you want a high intensity actionfest (with boobs and butts).
If only I could stumble upon a large bag of money . If only…

Well, we should all be done with the holidays for a while, hopefully you had a good New Year. Now put away that old 2010 countdown timer and have at this fancy new one for some unknown Platinum project.
No idea what it is, could be a new game, could be something completely uneventful. Don’t get worked up for it, but it is kind of neat. Platinum is the studio behind MadWorld, Bayonetta, Infinite Space and a list of other games under their former name Clover – a solid bunch of developers, I’d say.

As it turns out, the wait for Bayonetta isn’t going to be so bad after all so you might want to hold on to those import dollars. Platinum has ensured that they will have yet another sales disappointment on their hands by announcing a January 5 launch in the US, and a January 8 launch in Europe.
That seems dangerously close to Christmas for a game that isn’t releasing before the big day. It’s not hard to imagine millions of gamers too busy with their latest set of holiday gaming goods to worry about buying yet another title to tackle.
Maybe I’m overlooking the brilliance of launching on January 5, but I just can’t see anything good coming from it and I certainly can’t see Bayonetta finally getting Platinum (ex-Clover) the success they deserve.

I’m tempted by the allure of Bayonetta, but I’m not going to bite – well, at least not with the import version.
The game releases today in Japan, and conveniently enough the PS3 version is region free and even supports an English track. So if you’ve got a PS3 and simply can’t wait to play Bayonetta, import away.
A couple of things are holding me back, the first being that the PS3 is known to be a rougher version of the two. The last comparison video I checked suggested the PS3 version has been tightened up, but I still don’t want to risk it.
Also, importing isn’t cheap.
Spending $80 before tax isn’t something I want to do for any game, much less in a time as hectic as the holidays. I’ll be holding out until next year for my copy of Bayonetta.

Oh, it’s on.
Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya had some harsh words for former Team Ninja boss Tomonobu Itagaki.
“It’s a huge mistake to think like an idiot that big breasts on women seem erotic,” Kamiya said.
These words were obviously a dig at Itagaki who’s known for creating female characters with enormous boobs. Kamiya’s own Bayonetta is also about sex appeal, but doesn’t resort to gargantuan chest bumps. READ MORE

A Bayonetta demo is hitting Xbox Live and PSN on October 8, but sorry folks, it’s only in Japan. That really isn’t much of a hurdle as creating a Japanese Silver account on Live is pretty damn easy – I’ve got mine ready and waiting.
The demos are different, and the reason seems obvious enough. On 360 the demo will feature one additional stage, the Falling Clock Tower. I’m going to take a wild guess and say that optimization issues (read: it plays like shit on PS3) are to blame. READ MORE
