Sin & Punishment: Star Successor is a game you should buy

Try not to forget that scrunched between Mario and Samus is a lovely new Treasure title called Sin & Punishment: Star Successor. It seems to be getting overlooked, which is a damn shame because it’s shaping up nicely.

It impressed me back at E3 and if word from Japan is right, it’s a solid game. That didn’t matter to Japanese gamers apparently as the game went neglected on store shelves.

I fear it’ll meet similar results here in the States, especially with its June 7 release date. Nintendo will likely put its marketing dollars toward Galaxy 2 and Other M when it’s Sin & Punishment that’s going to need the most help selling.

Business is business though, and they know where the money’s at.

Maybe it’ll surprise me and find success. Probably not, but maybe.

Do me a favor and buy 12 copies when it launches.

Zelda this fall? Cammie bets a steak on it.

We seriously need new art for this game.

There’s a looming question people want answered from Nintendo: What’s on the agenda for the second half of 2010? Metroid: Other M releases just days after E3 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Sin & Punishment 2 launch nearly a full month before.

There are some other smaller titles set to hit both early and later this year, but Nintendo’s dropping all its bombs early this year.

Everyone wants a new Zelda and I know it sounds crazy, but we actually may get what we want this time. A fall launch is becoming more than mere rumor now, I’d say it’s clearly Nintendo’s goal (see: not set in stone). We’ve heard a variety of people from within Nintendo mention a fall release, now it’s on them to put out the product.

In an exchange of words with Wired, executive vice president Cammie Dunaway gave hopefuls another tease. READ MORE

After watching this trailer, you’ll want Joe Danger

Joe Danger looks fantastic. For as much as I enjoyed Excitebike: World Rally, Joe Danger looks to have all the charm and features I was dreaming World Rally would have.

A new trailer went up for the future XBLA and PSN release. No word on a specific date, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a Summer of Arcade release for maximum exposure.

Check it out the clip, it’s slick.

Span Smasher resurfaces with a new name

Originally announced as Span Smasher at E3 2009, Artoon’s WiiWare game was MIA until the media summit a couple days back. It resurfaced as FlingSmash and I guess it was one of the few games Nintendo’s ninjas wouldn’t slice your head off for getting some footage.

NWR put a clip of the game up on YouTube and the last I checked, the crew hasn’t been decapitated.

Aside from the name, FlingSmash looks pretty familiar. It’s got a really pleasing aesthetic and hooray, it’s exclusively controlled with Wii MotionPlus.

Artoon has worked with Nintendo on a few projects; some games they hit, some games they miss. This one is looking like a hit, but that all depends on if the gameplay stays fresh for the entirety of the game.

Just Cause 2 demo hits XBLA, PSN, Steam on March 4

Everyone seemed hesitant to sing the praises of Just Cause 2 despite knowing in their heads they desperately wanted to. It looks so absolutely ridiculous in the best way imaginable, but the first Just Cause was so damn janky I think it made people timid.

I know I was cautious to unleash the joys I got from seeing a screenshot of a dude climbing on top of airplanes in flight.

I can appreciate absurd scenarios so long as the people behind the project know it’s ludicrous. The Just Cause 2 guys know their game is ludicrous.

Now that people have played it and verified that it doesn’t suck, the hype level seems to have been given a significant boost. People are talking about Just Cause 2, and the reports are highly positive so far.

We’ll all get a chance to play it soon as a demo hits March 4 in preparation for a March 26 launch date. It’s bad, bad timing for me, but if the game manages to release to unanimous praise, I might have to make room for it.

Look into the depths of the DSi

NEAT.

That’s pretty much what I was thinking to myself when I first saw the clip for this upcoming DSiWare game by Good-Feel Inc. called something ridiculously long in Japan (Rittai Kakushi e Attakoreda).

Rittai tracks depth with the DSi camera as you tilt and twist the handheld to reveal hidden objects … I think. It comes off as being part game, part tech demo, but for 500 points I’m OK with that. Should the game get localized, I might have to check it out.

Civilization V announcement trailer of triumph

I’ve never been a Civilization guy because, well, I’ve never played a Civilization game – that might have something to do with me growing up a console (mostly) playin’ fool.

I am intrigued by the franchise, however. Intrigued and scared, I should clarify.

Any game that promises to suck hundreds of hours of my life away is straight intimidating. I know it’s because people think it’s so damn awesome, but we’re talking about hundreds of hours.

This Civilization V trailer though; it calls to me.

Aside from the mediocre voice acting, I can feel the triumph in the game. I … I want that triumph, even if I’m not sure I have the dedication it takes.

As blasphemous as it sounds, I want it for consoles. Don’t throw tomatoes at me, I’d like nothing more than for you to get your PC version, too. And, I know it would be superior, but I’d like to take this thing for a spin on my 360.

Fall 2010 is a rough time to launch, however.

Naughty Dog getting bigger, faster, stronger

Naughty Dog is gettin’ new digs and moving out into the wild frontier some 500 feet from where they’ve been located for the past six years. The official move goes down March 1 and they’re documenting it over at the Naughty Dog site – there’s even a lovely Flickr account showing the work in progress.

Basically, the new studio is bigger and badder. The guys over there deserve it, too. Uncharted 2 is fucking ace and if a bigger office is something the top dogs (completely intentional) see as beneficial, have at it.

I do require a new game reveal at E3 though, and for as much as I love Uncharted 2, I’d rather it not be Uncharted 3. It wrapped up so conclusively that I’m simply not ready for a third … yet.

Congrats guys, now let me come visit.

A few questions answered about Other M

I have my reservations with Metroid: Other M. Nintendo’s talking a lot about story and there’s a huge cinematic presence found in the summit demo.

Metroid doesn’t need heavy story, but I’m willing to entertain the idea if it’s done in limited quantity. I never found Metroid Fusion’s story offensive, but the unskippable cutscenes really hurt on the second time around.

Story elements aside, I like what I hear in this GameTrailers interview. It seems that someone finally decided to ask one of the biggest questions I’ve had on my mind: is it all just metal corridors? We’ve seen an Earth-like environment and we’ve seen a Norfair-inspired lava area (or maybe it is Norfair), but those were just tiny glimpses in an old E3 trailer.

While he wasn’t allowed to talk about it, localization producer Nate Bihldorf confirmed that it’s not all metal interiors and glowing lights. READ MORE

Tecmo and former Team Ninja head Tomonobu Itagaki have reached a settlement it seems, so expect that madman to start making headlines again soon, or rather, now.

In regards to his lawsuit against Tecmo, he sent out an open letter stating that it was settled amicably then proceeded to thank fans for their support. Rather than detailing it for you, here’s the letter:

Please continue your unwavering support for me.

-Tomonobu Itagaki”

Hooray for peaceful resolutions, now show us what you’re working on Itagaki. He is a bit of a loud mouth, but Itagaki’s games certainly draw my interest.
