Final two Blood Bowl races revealed

Cyanide Studios just announced the final two races that will star in their upcoming strategy football game Blood Bowl, and they are the Wood Elves and Chaos. Alongside this announcement comes a handful of new screenshots that should excite fantasy and sport fans alike. Here is a brief description of each team from the official website:

“Wood Elves – Wood Elf teams are very elegant and value fair play in their game. They are a very specialized team with distinctive positions for each player role. ‘Fragile and agile’, Wood Elves give priority to evasive tactics in order to avoid confrontation and score without using any violence. But don’t underestimate them when on the attack, Wood Elves won’t hesitate to fight back if they have to; Wardancers especially know how to stop stubborn opponents. Last but not least, Wood Elves can count on valuable help from Treemen. Their awesome strength and sturdiness are seriously difficult to match, fortunately for everyone else, Treemen have a bad Habit of Taking Root in the middle of the field during the game!

Chaos – The Chaos team uses a totally different playing style to that of the Wood Elves. They have no concept whatsoever of fair play and don’t care very much about the ball either! At least, not if someone is still standing on the other team. To sum up their game philosophy, let’s say that some Chaos teams consider the number of injuries inflicted is far more important than number of touchdowns scored. Their team is composed of Chaos Warriors, Beastmen and Minotaurs. Corrupted by the power of the Chaos Gods, they are bestowed great strength and excel at the physical contact game, often trying to eliminate every adversary before scoring. When they face opponents that are more resistant than expected, Chaos teams line up wild Minotaurs whose bestiality would make any other team shudder. However, be careful, Minotaurs are only honorary Blood Bowl “players”; they are highly unpredictable and seldom follow their coach’s orders.

IGN’s exclusive new MadWorld trailer is jacked up

Posted by: Justin Sanchez

Platinum Games is on a mission to make every new trailer for MadWorld better than the last it would seem. IGN’s latest exclusive video is, like all previous clips, bad frickin’ ass. Once again, we see Jack straight up wrecking dudes.

Judging by the videos, the diversity is going to come with a ton of different death moves. Each new clip seems to show off more and more, and this one is no different.

Hypefest ’09 round 6: Punch Out!!

Punch Out!! (Wii) – May 18

Based on box art alone I’d put this game on my list of most anticipated games in 2009, but added to the fact that it’s based on the best boxing franchise in the history of ever just puts it completely over the edge.

I’m talking about Punch Out!! for Wii, of course. Nintendo got any true classic gamer excited by announcing that it’s going to be heading our way May 18, which incase you didn’t know, isn’t very far off.

Despite worried speculation it would be a simply remake of the original, Punch Out!! is confirmed to have a roster of new and classic characters to slug it out with, and if early indications are anything to go by, they’ll be just as awesomely stereotypical as previous characters in the franchise.

Street Fighter IV – Review

Street Fighter IV (PS3, 360, PC) – Review based on 360 version

As Street Fighter IV slowly crept closer and closer to its launch date, the old school gamer in me couldn’t help but reminisce about the good ‘ol days of Street Fighter II arcade action. Capcom looked to truly be capitalizing on the nostalgic part of my heart, something I can rarely exist.

Long before the first reviews started flowing in, there was no question that I’d be picking it up on launch day. Perhaps it’s a bit naïve to commit to something so soon, but nothing was going to prevent me from nabbing a copy.

One day before launch, the dreaded gaming empire known as Gamestop actually had some good news for me: Street Fighter IV was in. With the utmost excitement, I peed a little then sent my special someone on an urgent mission to pick up my copy immediately – sure I couldn’t play it until I got off work, but just knowing I had it was good enough.

FFIV: The After Wii confirmed before official announcement

Remember that bit about Final Fantasy IV: The After coming to Wii? As it turns out, it’s true. No big shock there, but it still seems weird. We all know the Wii isn’t up to snuff with the 360 or PS3 graphically, but it’s certainly a bit more capable than two mobile phones duct taped together.

Following the rumor, the secret is now out and confirmed thanks to an ESRB rating that confirms a North American Wii release. The game was rated M for extreme gore, sexual intercourse and a general fascination with all things evil.

OK, that was a lie. It’s actually rated E, and it follows the happenings that take place after Final Fantasy IV. Although it’s unclear as to whether it’s a full retail release or a WiiWare title, it’s definitely coming to Wii.

Wal-Mart prematurely launches the Halo Wars

Posted by: Justin Sanchez

Anyone trying to land Halo Wars early might want to brave the fierce crowd of soccer moms and often disgruntled employees at Wal-Mart, because you might find a nice little stack of said game.

I made a quick trip to try and land a $10 copy of Devil May Cry 4 to no avail, but while I was there I did stumble upon the limited edition version of Halo Wars. Not exactly known for their gaming gurus, I’m sure this is going to be a case-by-case basis where some Wal-Marts are breaking the street date and others aren’t, so keep that in mind.

GTA: Chinatown Wars trailer, now with gameplay

Posted by: Justin Sanchez

When Rockstar’s not busy carefully designing a dude’s manparts, they’re hard at work creating more iterations of their ultimate money maker, Grand Theft Auto.

Rockstar released an official trailer for the upcoming DS title Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars that featured around two seconds of tiny gameplay footage. Apparently in response to the booing and hissing, they came up with the brilliant idea to create a trailer that actually shows us what the hell we’ll be playing.

Chinatown Wars actually looks pretty nice for a DS game, and some of the touch based “mini games” look to spice up the gameplay a bit. How well a handheld version of GTA can actually turn out is another story entirely, but we’ll see soon enough.

GTAIV: The Lost and Damned breaks download record, costs too much

The idea of a GTA experience taken place primarily on a motorcycle is scarier than the homeless guy on the bike.
The idea of a GTA experience taking place primarily on a motorcycle is scarier than the homeless guy on the bike.

Clearly in a move to pour salt in my open wound that is Grand Theft Auto IV’s success, the recently released The Lost and Damned expansion set the download record on Xbox Live.

I kid, I kid – I don’t hate the game enough to be upset about an expansion selling well, although it is insane to think that a 1600 point download did sold so amazingly. If reviews are anything to go by, and I’d assume they are since they’re, you know, reviews, The Lost and Damned packs a ton of content so the pricing might not be as absurd as I once thought — although it’s not doubt still absurd.

While there are no hard numbers out, statistics show that 11 out of every eight Live users bought this expansion. Also, Rockstar has created a bar graph replicating a middle finger made especially for me.

GoNintendo scores exclusive Night Game trailer

Posted by: Justin Sanchez

Among the massive list of games announced by Nintendo of America, one was a WiiWare title called Night Game (working title). Night Game is a WiiWare game being developed and published by Nicalis, the guys bringing Cave Story to WiiWare sometime in the future.

There’s not a lot that’s known about it, but GoNintendo scored an exclusive trailer for Night Game last night. The game is easy on the eyes in a World of Goo sort of way, which it clearly draws some visual inspiration from.

Combined with the art style and music, Night Game looks like it could be another WiiWare title to keep an eye on.

Very few details have been revealed, but here’s a copy and paste job of Night Game’s description on NoA’s press release yesterday:

Hands-on with HotD: Overkill – Featuring more hiccups than a drunken hobo

Since I’m not going to have it checked out long enough to beat and post up a review, I figure I’d go ahead and throw up some impressions of The House of the Dead: Overkill on Wii. Before it launched, I was reasonably hyped for this game despite my care cup being damn near empty with light gun influenced games. Developer Headstrong Games did a pretty convincing job selling me on the idea, and historically, House of the Dead games have been pretty fun shooters.

With that said, I bring back some pretty disappointing news: there’s no way I could justify purchasing Overkill at $50, or recommend it to anyone but the most hardcore on-rails shooter.

It’s not that I have something against the genre, even if it’s not often that I dabble in it (I’m ever the optimist about Dead Space Extraction). Seriously, I would have purchased this game had I truly thought it is worth it – but it’s not.
